Soul Patrol – Episode 70

In This Episode…

We’ll pay tribute to founding member of the Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Pointer and soul singer Betty Wright of “Clean Up Woman” fame, both who passed away recently. We’ll also take a deep dive into the Miami Sound. That’s the vibrant soul scene happening in the mid to late 1960s in Miami, FL that gave us such soul stars as Betty Wright, Clarence “Blowfly” Reid, Gwen & George McCrae and Helene Smith among others. We will listen to clips from the documentary Deep City about the Miami Sound and Deep City Records. Deep City Records was the first black-owned record label in south Florida. We’ll also pay tribute to Lionel Richie who recently celebrated his 70th birthday.
