Soul Patrol – Episode 55
In This Episode…
We celebrate The Harlem Cultural Festival, what became known as Black Woodstock, that took place fifty years ago this summer. Hundreds of thousands of young people turned out to witness the likes of Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, The Staple Singers, Sly and The Family Stone, B. B. King and many others over six Sundays in Harlem during the summer 1969. We’ll hear from those artist and others on today’s show as well as talk about the combination of celebration and activism that infused Black Woodstock.
